NAME & ALIAS | Shelby Reinard. Sometimes teasingly referred to as 'Shelly'. AGE | Twenty-Four CLASS | Hoplite GENDER | Male SEXUALITY | Heterosexual ALIGNMENT | Lawful Good
[style=width:459px; height: 20px; border-radius: 10px; background-color: F6F6F6; font-family: arial; color: #B6BABB; font-size: 16px; font-wieght: bold; text-transform: uppercase; text-align: center;]we all wear masks, i can see you have one as well[/style] APPEARANCE | Standing at 5' 8", the scrawny young man appears much smaller than most of his peers. When not clad in armor, he is often confused for a mage of some sort due to his small build. Though his years of training are finally starting to show on his frame, signs of bulk finally starting to show. Being a knight, he tends to keep himself in presentable order. Blonde hair is easily kept in order, never going down past his ears. His clothing is surprisingly well kept as well. Though his cheap nature causes him to keep some articles longer than he should, simply patching up any holes or tears. Even without these patches his clothes are clearly very cheaply made. Comfort and simplicity are key parts of his wardrobe, and it shows.
PERSONALITY | Despite his somewhat crude upbringing Shelby has developed quite the ‘knightly’ attitude, even adopting a code of chivalry. As such he holds honor in the highest regard, willing to do anything to protect it. His strong sense of justice tends to lead him into trouble, as he seems to have a habit of sticking his nose places it simply doesn’t belong. While having a general distaste for violence amongst people, he will not hesitate to use it when he feels there are no other options left. Fortunately for everyone involved, he also places a very high value on human life, never fighting with lethal intent. Though there are some exceptions. Shelby is a very religious person, and will do anything to defend the name of his goddess. He sees no problem striking down another he believes it to be Morrighans’s will. Though instances such as these are very rare.
In the end, Shelby is very inexperienced in the conduct of a knight. There are many situations that arise that he simply doesn’t know how to approach. These are most often choices between rules and principles, situations where he knows there is no right answer. This usually leads to him simply backing away, refusing to take any action in an effort to protect his conscience as well as his pride. Though one could argue this his pride borders on arrogance. Despite his simple past, Shelby is a surprisingly cocky person. He's very proud of how far he has gotten from his modest beginnings. This leads to him holding himself above those who he feels didn't earn their place, people who have things handed to them. This leads to him being a somewhat self-righteous person. Though he usually has the good manners to keep such thoughts to himself.
While arrogant, he doesn't necessarily consider himself stronger than others. He values teamwork, and is in face easily impressed by others. Though he doesn't automatically assume he is better, he does have trouble acknowledging that someone is actually better than him. Having spent his childhood away from civilization, he has a lot of trouble accepting technology. Even things as simple as guns tend to make him rather uneasy, causing him to occasionally jump just at the sound of a gunshot. While he is willing to admit technology has a purpose, he wants absolutely nothing to do with it.
While he may be a self-proclaimed knight, his past still shines through. His ‘work hard play hard’ mindset is still very prominent. And while he may come across as a very calm and professional man at times, those who have spent more time around him soon realize just how goofy he is. This ties in to his view of the world, as he has a very black and white outlook on life. Serious matters demand serious treatment, while simple things warrant a more relaxed approach. One trait that is shared between the two sides is his loyalty. Shelby is fiercely loyal to a fault towards those he trusts. Once his loyalty is gained, that person can do no wrong in his eyes. Even his own judgmental nature is put aside, their actions often dismissed with a ‘I’m sure they had a good reason’.
Despite a lack of formal education, Shelby is fairly intelligent. However he has a severe lack of wisdom, unable to properly apply his knowledge. He doesn't really put much thought into things, often taking things at face value. As such he is very gullible. On top of this, he is also rather dense. It usually takes making the same mistake a few times for him to finally realize he must not be doing something right.
LIKES DISLIKES HISTORY | Shelby comes from very humble beginnings, his mother a simple homemaker and his father an alcoholic lumberjack and carpenter. They lived rather far out from the kingdom of Mythraegal, only venturing into town to make deliveries and do business, Shelby occasionally coming along for the ride. From a young age he was fascinated with the city. Though he didn’t bother bringing up the possibility of moving with his father, who seemed perfectly content living in the woods. Most of his childhood was spent with his mother, to his father’s disliking. Being a surprisingly well learned woman, she took it upon herself to become his teacher. The last two days of the week were always spent with his father. The first day he would assist him in work, learning many ‘life lessons’ from his father. The second day would first be spent with the entire family together, taking time to worship Morrighan, the goddess of war. After which the rest of the day would be spent in recreation. His life continued on this way for a number of years, the entire family content with their situation.
For as long as he could remember there had been a spear and shield hanging over the mantle of their home. Whenever he asked about it his father would simply ignore him, acting as if nothing had been said. Eventually he gave up, not bothering to ask again until he was fourteen. While his father reacted the same as always, his mother took it upon herself to tell Shelby the story. As it turns out, his father had been a knight for the kingdom a number of years ago. However, his leg was injured in the line of duty and failed to heal properly. During his initial leave, he turned to alcohol to dull the pain and distract him from his inability to fulfill his duties. When he finally realized he would never be able to return to his work, he simply gave up. At the same time, he couldn’t let go of his duty. He was unable to get rid of his weapons, keeping them as a reminder of better times.
It wasn’t long after hearing this story that Shelby went ahead and confronted his father about it, telling him he wished to follow in his footsteps. However his father didn’t respond, ignoring it just as before. Disheartened, he decided not to bother him about it again. The next time he went out to work with his father, Shelby was shocked to see him waiting with the spear and shield in hand. He told him that before he could even think about becoming a knight, he was going to have to train. The only thing he asked is that he didn’t leave for the kingdom until he was old enough that his mother wouldn’t have to worry. Accepting these conditions without a second thought, he began his training. His mother insisted that his schedule remain the same, putting his studies ahead of physical training. Neither Shelby or his father bothered contesting, agreeing to dedicate the end of the week to training.
His life continued in this way until he was twenty years old, when his father officially passed down his spear and shield. With nothing but his equipment and some pocket change, Shelby made his way to Mythraegal. Though things didn’t go quite as planned. The academy refused to accept him, as his family was no longer considered to be of noble blood. To make ends meet, Shelby was forced to take work as mercenary, a rather low income job for an inexperienced fighter. At first he struggled to make ends meet. Though as he gained more battle experience, he slowly began to pull things together. He found the line of work rather unfulfilling, eagerly awaiting his chance to become a knight. When the Royal Family accounted that the Labyrinth was open for exploration he jumped at the chance, throwing his mercenary work aside. Perhaps if he proved himself here, the Royal Family would take notice and allow him to become a knight. With no better options, he focused his efforts on the unknown depths of the Labyrinth.

WEAPONS | His equipment is rather old, having belong to his father well over twenty years ago. However, they are very well maintained despite their age. The old steel spear was just as strong as the day it was made, only a few scuffs on the shaft to show its age. The tower shield on the other hand was another story. While still polished to be good as new, it had a few good sized dents in it. Though much like the spear, it was just as dependable as the day his father got it.
