Only a couple weeks, maybe less. Enough to still not know all the places to go in the great city. He knew his way around the Inn, and some of the Explorer's Guild, but so far Maaren had not stepped foot in the Tavern, or any of the shops, and especially not the Apothecary. The Kronos Square was familiar territory though. He felt more at home there, which was odd to say the least. Maybe it was the garden around the clock tower? He wasn't too sure, and didn't care enough to think about it.
Maaren took visits to the Square often in his spare time. Sure, one could pick up quests at the Tavern or just wandering around the Guild, but he preferred to do his information gathering here. It was the center of town, so all sorts of folks would be passing through with their gossip of the day. Even if it was something as simple as "I'd love to get a leaf from the Labyrinth and frame it on my wall" Maaren would approach the gossipers and offer his help. At his skill level, he would rather take on simple tasks than more difficult ones. Simple tasks didn't require a large group.
Today though, it was just before noon. Certainly there were people about, though not as many. Perhaps it was due to the chilling weather? Maaren hardly noticed the change in temperature. His body was already colder than most, and he did wear rather warm clothing to begin with. He looked around the Square and listened. Nothing of interest caught his attention, so he continued to sit on the edge of the fountain watching the people pass by.
Behind him the great clock tower's hands moved slowly, ticking and tocking with each passing second. Maaren could almost hear the gears within it straining to turn. And then the hands reached the top, pointing towards the "XII" on the circular face. A loud chime rang out, similar to crystal bells rather than brass ones, yet still not the same. The sound did not phase Maaren, but upon hearing it he smiled for just a moment. The sound had become familiar to him as well, and some part of him could still appreciate that...

Elias spent most days cooped up in his family’s apartment, when he wasn’t working down in the Labyrinth. Though cooped up probably wasn’t the right term. He enjoyed spending his days in the dark, quiet apartment, while his mother and brothers were out and about in the city, sleeping away the long afternoons, waking only when someone shook him awake for dinner. On days when cabin fever set in and he couldn’t stand to stare at the four walls of the room he shared with four brothers, he’d dress and stalk the city.
He never set out with any intended destination in mind. He set out northwards, hands shoved deep in the pocket of his coat. His pace was brisk, due to the cold rather than any eagerness to reach where he was headed. Elias reached the city square just as the clock struck noon. Six hours before he had anywhere to be. He shivered as the wind blew threw him, and rubbed his nose on his sleeve. Probably the beginning of another cold. There was nothing he could do about that though, and the idea of going back and sitting in his room till someone came home was…well it wasn’t exactly a depressing idea. More tedious than depressing.
Shouldering his way through the small crowd, he made his way to the center of the square. There was a young man sitting on the lip of the fountain. Probably about his age, but smaller and frailer, and just…sitting there. Elias stopped, watching the man. A few people pushed past him, but he ignored them.
Elias put his head down and jogged over to the man. He stopped in front of the man, not sure if he had seen him.
“Hey, you lost?”
That hadn’t been what he wanted to say. He wasn’t exactly sure what it was he wanted to say, but the gruffness of his own voice startled him. Shifting, he tried to rearrange his face into something that looked friendly, but found himself failing and stopped. Better to look intentionally distant, than failing to be friendly, he guessed.

Maaren suspected it wasn't someone with a job for him, as no one had really caught on to his reason for sitting around the square every other day. So what was this man's purpose for approaching Maaren then?
The man asked if Maaren was lost. A strange question, but he supposed that with the way he was just sitting around he may have looked lost to a citizen. The Hexer looked at the man, tilting his head to the side and studying him. He looked too normal to be an Explorer, but then again, Maaren didn't quite look the part either.
"I am not lost," Maaren began, his voice soft but cold. Soon becoming too aware of that, Maaren tried to seem a little more friendly. "But thank you for the concern." flashing a soft smile, Maaren hoped he seemed a little less apathetic. It was right to be friendly to a man that was only offering help, right?
"Is there anything else you might need from me?" Maaren then asked, curious to see if the man had other intentions.

Fidgeting, Elias watched as the Hexer surveyed him. Suddenly, he found himself wishing he'd worn his armor. Not only was it much warmer than the plain tunic and jacket he was wearing, it also made him look more important.
It was good to hear that the man wasn't lost though. Perhaps a little weird that he was sitting on a cold fountain instead of hanging out somewhere warm, but still good.
"Ah, no not really?" Elias replied. He was a little thrown off guard by the Hexer's question. It seemed like the man was trying to be friendly, but Elias couldn't fathom what he meant.
"Just trying to be friendly, I guess. The city can be a bit intimidating." He held out a hand, "I'm Elias Dunmarre by the way." He gave the man a small smile, and wondered if he should suggest they move to some place warmer.
