NAME & ALIAS | Ivaak AGE | 27 CLASS | Monk GENDER | Male SEXUALITY | Asexual: he has never met someone shiny enough for him. ALIGNMENT | Neutral
we all wear masks, i can see you have one as well APPEARANCE | Ivaak is tall and muscular, at least by Tengu standards, which puts him at 5’11” and a slightly above average build by human standards. As is typical of the Tengu from his homeland, Ivaak’s body is covered in dark feathers, he has literal crow’s feet, his nose and mouth come together in a large, yellowish beak, and attached to his arms is a pair of vestigial wings, too small to support his weight. Ivaak has yellow eyes, always wide open in search of something shiny. He wears humble monk robes and a conical straw hat, yet always carries several pouches, a few of which tend to be bulging with worthless trinkets.
PERSONALITY | Ivaak is a man with very simple needs, and will be friendly with anyone who helps facilitate those needs. The needs in question are shiny objects of any variety; primarily coins, but many broken trinkets with no practical worth can also appear desirable to him, should they look shiny. This makes Ivaak a terrible communist, which he admits despite insisting that he is, in fact, a communist. Taoism is also a tradition he tries to stick to, but is terrible at, believing that following the trail of “shinies” is the will of the Tao. His failure to uphold these ideals is mainly due to his obsession with shiny objects, but is also because he isn’t the brightest fellow in the world, and prefers to make things simple. Ivaak has a fear of “ditch” and a severe dislike for his homeland, and will constantly remind his companions about how much of a terrible place it was. Any person or object distrusted by Ivaak is “obviously” working for the secret police. This makes Ivaak an extremely paranoid person, and he can come off as pessimistic about the intentions of anyone he doesn’t see as a friend. When the going gets rough, Ivaak believes that the heavy and rapid use of fists is the quickest and best solution, at least until the threat to himself and his companions stops moving. Ivaak is happiest when occupied with his fantasies of “Cointown,” and anyone he likes enough to declare as an official of Cointown will find themselves stuck with the most loyal bodyguard shiny trinkets can buy, although his rambling, cawing while he snores, and need to arrange a nest of shiny objects every time he sleeps can get really annoying.
LIKES DISLIKES HISTORY | Ivaak’s homeland was a communist Tengu nation that could have been a parody of the Soviet Union, complete with secret police and a hypocritical ruling party. This government dealt with undesirables of any fashion by tossing them in a ditch, where they would eventually die, spawning a fear in all citizens, Ivaak included, of the dreaded ditch. Ivaak himself was raised in a monastery where he was taught martial arts and the boons of communism, which was enforced by the students of the monastery going out, collecting “shinies,” and returning them to their master so he could share the wealth…with himself. One day, the master left the monastery with all of his earnings and burned the building to the ground. Ivaak was out collecting shinies at the time, so he survived, and without a master to give to, started keeping shinies for himself. Afterwards, Ivaak got caught up in the mafia for a few years, where he learned the efficient wonder of the beat-down method of “problem-solving.” One day, however, his gang got busted, and Ivaak narrowly escaped getting thrown into the ditch. After leaving his country, Ivaak quested for a while with a few other monks and priests, one of whom taught him the ways of Taoism, but later regretted the decision upon realizing that Ivaak was a terrible learner. Also on this quest, Ivaak “unintentionally gave an army intending to invade his homeland the strategy that was eventually used to crush the communist Tengus. Ivaak, however, remained ignorant of his country’s demise, and continued to travel on his own after the group of monks disbanded, until the day he heard about the potential for loot in the Yggdrasil labyrinth, and decided that the Tao was urging him in that direction.
